Meet the Team

  • Rusteen Tabaei, CEO

Rusteen Tabaei holds a BA in Political Science from UBC and has dedicated much of his early career to nonprofit work focused on community support and societal equity. His passion for improving language access in healthcare is deeply rooted in his own family’s experiences navigating medical systems, where language barriers too often affected the quality of care. Seeing how these communication gaps impact seniors, newcomers, and caregivers inspired him to join EchoBot and help build solutions that ensure everyone can receive care with clarity and understanding.

  • Rosemary Vayalikunnel, COO

Rosemary is a UBC graduate with a BSc in Biology. She brings extensive experience in global and clinical health research, and is actively engaged in community service with diverse populations, particularly older adults and children. Rosemary’s interest in addressing language barriers in healthcare began after witnessing an elderly relative struggle to communicate with in their long-term care home. The loneliness, isolation and sense of neglect they experienced left a lasting impact on her. Frustrated by the lack of efficient translation tools and motivated to improve patient safety and dignity, she hopes to implement EchoBot across healthcare settings to improve accessibility and support diverse patient needs.

  • Shania Lopez, CMO

Shania is completing her final year of a Biology degree at UBC. As a second-generation immigrant, she understands first-hand how language barriers affect trust and decision-making in healthcare. Her experiences supporting older adults in long-term care deepened her interest in geriatric medicine and inspired her commitment to improving translation and communication tools for populations who are often overlooked in clinical settings.

  • Arshia Daeizadeh, CSO

Arshie completed both his Bachelors of Kinesiology and Masters of Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia. EchoBot Translation grew from Arshie’s experience working in healthcare settings where language barriers were a daily reality. As a multilingual first-generation Canadian, he often found himself informally translating for family members and patients who struggled to understand critical medical information. Seeing how miscommunication can impact care made the problem feel personal for him. EchoBot is his way of combining his kinesiology background, frontline healthcare experience, and passion for accessibility to create a tool that supports clearer communication, reduces stress for patients and providers, and helps make healthcare more equitable for everyone.
